TalarMade launch new range of neurological orthoses – Neurotec

Friday, September 7, 2012

August 2012

TalarMade are proud to announce the launch of NEUROTEC – A range of high quality, innovative neurological orthoses designed by practitioners in the fields of Orthotics and Physical Therapy to assist in the effective treatment of contractures and postural deformities.

The range has been designed specifically to treat patients who suffer from conditions such as:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • CVA ( Stroke)
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Traumatic Brain/Spinal Cord Injury
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Dementia

These patients have often lost range of motion, resulting from adaptive tissue shortening due to immobility compounded by altered and varying muscle tone. Unlike orthopaedic contractures, these patient groups rarely present with adhesions which require aggressive stretching to restore full range and such treatment could result in unnecessary pain and potential injury. In addition this form of treatment may actually stimulate the stretch reflex, which will cause the affected area to pull even further into flexion.

The treatment rationale behind the NEUROTEC range is to provide comfortable, well-padded orthoses, which provide a low load progressive stretch to the affected area to gradually improve range of motion and reduce underlying tone. These devices allow a limited amount of flexion and can therefore adapt with the patient during high tone episodes, returning via a spring back effect to their original position once the episode has passed.

The NEUROTEC range also incorporates the use of Outlast® Technology, originally developed for NASA. Products utilising this material technology are able to continually regulate the skins microclimate. As the skin gets warmer, the heat is absorbed and as it cools the heat is released, therefore optimising patient comfort levels.

Ian Leddy, TalarMade MD states, ‘The NEUROTEC range offers significant advantages in terms of comfort and compliance to patients in these groups combined with significant postural improvements. The consequential benefits in terms of improved respiration, circulation and pressure reduction are significant and contribute greatly to improved patient physical and emotional wellbeing. We are proud to be able to offer such a high quality range of products with such significant patient benefits to the market.’
